VOA is a faith based, non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals, families and communities reach their full spiritual, emotional and physical potential and well-being through a vast array of human services that target the elderly, at risk youth, those striving to overcome substance abuse, those transiting from correctional centers, veterans, homelessness and more.

Essential Job Functions Include:

  • Routinely supervises the overall health, safety, and security of assigned youth.
  • Regularly documents events which occur during each shift worked.
  • Monitors youth movements both inside and outside the facility throughout the shift.
  • Acts as a liaison between Milestones and other organizations.
  • Ensures home cleanliness.
  • Periodically performs partial intakes on all new arrivals.
  • Regularly tours the facility and grounds to ensure a high level of security by observation and corrective action, if necessary.
  • Routinely monitors visitor activities.
  • Ensures youth observe all fire and other safety measures.
  • Prepares meals.
  • Regularly provides transportation using company vehicle.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with all Volunteers of America Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure that youth keep scheduled appointments.
  • Confronts youth on negative and inappropriate behaviors in accordance with the program's behavior management system.

Other Job Functions Include:

  • Secures and inventories personal possessions of youth.
  • Assists youth with short-term coping and problem solving.
  • Encourages youth to participate in educational, recreational, spiritual and social opportunities.
  • Attends all staff meetings and training as requested.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move or transfer items through facility generally weighting 0 - 50 pounds.
  • Participate in youth related activities during the course of the work day without fatigue.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with potentially difficult people in confrontational and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for youth.
  • Ability to work from the perspective of youth development.
  • Ability to work varying shifts.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of work experience in a residential setting or youth related field.
