Essential Job Functions Include:

  • Must be empathetic and have the ability to relate to persons and families affected by the disease of chemical dependency, and show an interest in assisting and supporting the clients during all phases of recovery. 
  • Must have the ability to communicate assertively with clients when necessary.    
  • Must be able to work under stressful situations, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.  The ability and desire to be a team worker is very important to clients and other staff members.  Employee must be courteous to clients, visitors, and fellow employees at all times. 
  • Must possess the skills necessary to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Will enforce rules and regulations for the clients, at all times being respectful and assertive.  If a client does not comply, the action will be reported to the primary Director or On-call Assistant in addition to writing incident in the log.
  • Will immediately notify administrative staff of incidents or problems related to clients, visitors, facility or staff scheduling.  Notification will include but is not limited to client/visitor behavior, significant noncompliance with rules and regulations, suspicion of substance use, injuries, acute illness, physical contact or the potential thereof.
  • Aid clients in clarification of the 12-steps & principles, productive use of time in handling emotional and program concerns within the guidelines of the client's counselor.
  • Will be responsible for reporting possible chemical use.
  • Will be responsible for immediately reporting the potential for physical/sexual conflict between two clients.
  • Will be responsible for charting the medication that clients report they are taking.
  • Will be aware of fire hazards and periodically make rounds in the house to insure fire safety.
  • Will keep a shift log of client's whereabouts, phone calls and house activities and behaviors.  Must have face-to-face contact with each client every hr.
  • Do periodic inspections (minimum 2 per shift) of facility in regard to cleanliness, health, safety issues and client behavior.
  • Monitor duty roster assignments of clients.
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality as defined by HIPAA policies and 42 CFR regulations.
  • Support organization with maintaining accreditation standards.
  • Will enhance professional development through reading, classes, workshops, conferences, in-house training and on-the-job training.
  • Conduct oneself in a courteous, professional, ethical manner at all times.
  • Responsible for transporting clients to and from various appointments and meeting in the community.
  • Assist in keeping the facility and grounds clean.
  • Perform UA's.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings when required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit at a computer station for extended periods of time in order to complete essential job functions.
  • Ability to move or transfer items throughout the facility generally weighing 0 50 pounds.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively work with a variety of computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and desktop publishing.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to regularly and effectively deal with the public.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines under pressure.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Human services training helpful.
  • CPR certification and First Aid training preferred.
